“Bad Journalism ang Kaso mo! ‘Wag mo Sisihin ang Justice System!” Roque, Sinopla si Rappler CEO Maria Ressa!

Nitong Lunes ay ibinababa na ng korte ang hatol na guilty laban kay Rappler Chief Operating Officer Maria Ressa at sa dati nitong researcher kaugnay sa cyber-libel case na isinampa ng private citizen at negosyanteng si Wilfredo Keng. Ang kaso ay nag-ugat sa artikulong inilathala ng Rappler kung saan ikinokonekta nila si Keng sa droga at human trafficking.

Dahil sa nangyari umangal agad si Ressa sa harap ng media at iningagawa ang panunupil umano ng gobyerno sa kalayaan sa pamamahayag.

“I appeal to you, the journalists in this room, the Filipinos who are listening, to protect your rights. We are meant to be a cautionary tale. We are meant to make you afraid, right? So, I appeal again, don’t be afraid… Sa mga Pilipinong nanonood po, hindi lang po ito tungkol sa Rappler, hindi lang po ito tungkol sa amin, tungkol po ito sa inyo, because freedom of the press is the foundation of every singe right you have as a Filipino citizen,” kuda ni Ressa.

Hindi naman pinalampas ni Presidential Spokesperson ang mga boladas ni Ressa. Sa isang pahayag, binuweltahan ni Roque ang mamamahayag.

“Maria Ressa is trying to condemn the entire judicial system, I’ve taken it upon myself to defend it… You need to read the decision because the poor judge cannot defend her decision. The decision speaks for itself. That is her defense. There is no suppression of freedom of the press. It was a case of bad journalism. It was a case of bad lawyering.”
